Altar Windows

These windows, visible from the altar and communion rail are representations of four ancient crosses: Maltese, Tau, Cross Crosslet and Anchor.

The Maltese Cross

Formed by touching the points of four spearheads together with the outer eight points all equidistant from one another. It is said to symbolize the eight Beatitudes.

The Tau Cross

One of the oldest forms and said to be the true cross held up by Moses in the wilderness. It is also called the cross of prophecy because the serpent of Moses is a symbol of Christ.

The Cross Crosslet

Four Latin crosses combined to symbolize the spread of Christianity to the four corners of the earth.

The Anchor Cross

A combination of a cross and an anchor, emblematic of faith and hope. It was often used as a sacred symbol in the catacombs.
